The entrance will allow staff members to pass freely into and out of your prison while preventing prisoners especially janitor prisoners from making a break for the woods. Only when a k9guard stands on a pressure plate it opens the doors this way you ensure everything entering your prison gets sniffed and goes trough the metal detector. I love prison architect but i seem to always make the same reception entrance every game.
